Early-bird pricing ends Friday, January 11th. Also, this year the entry fee for campaigns is the same as it is for single entries. So what are you waiting for? Enter today!

Every year approximately 60,000 entries are submitted across the country in local competitions. The SF ADDY Awards is the first of a three-tier competition. Our gold winners automatically advance to a Regional competition which also includes Sacramento, Fresno and Reno, NV. National ADDY Award winners are announced in June.
To be eligible for consideration for a 2013 ADDY Award, all entries must have been published or aired between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2012.

ad:tech Announces Startup Spotlight Series Competition at ad:tech San Francisco
ad:tech San Francisco, the largest digital marketing show in the world, announced the ad:tech Startup Spotlight Series to find and reward the most innovative, enterprising new companies in digital marketing. Startups will compete in four categories: Social, Mobile, Video, and Data and Targeting.
“Sixteen startups. Six judges. Four categories. Who will win?”
The competition started in January when ad:tech invited a group of agency executives, venture capital firms and entrepreneurs to be the judges. After dozens of companies answered the call for startups, the judges narrowed down entrants to just 16 finalists. During the Startup Spotlight Series sessions at ad:tech, the companies will pitch their platforms as if they were competing to win a real client account. To win, they can’t just talk about how they’ll help advertisers — they have to demonstrate it. Four companies will compete in each category, and the judges will choose one from each group to win the ad:tech Innovation Award.

(Formerly British Television Advertising Awards)
Thu-Sun, Jan 26-29, 2012 • 2, 4, 6 & 8 pm
Admission: $10 general • $8 YBCA members, students, seniors
The annual screenings of the British Arrows Awards (formerly known as the British Television Advertising Awards) have become one of YBCA’s most popular programs. And for good reason — these sly, sexy, sometimes hilarious and sometimes somber British commercials, PSAs, and (new this year!) social networking experiments have a wild creativity. If our commercials were this inventive, we’d have no desire to fast-forward through them.
Bi-coastal marketing agency buys award-winning digital design firm to add integrated services and expertise, meet client needs.
New York (Jan. 12, 2012) – Rauxa, a full-service direct marketing agency, today announced it has acquired ThoughtMatrix, a San Francisco-based digital design and development firm. The deal will expand Rauxa’s portfolio of digital and integrated services, adding expertise in leading-edge technology, creative talent and social influence marketing leadership.
“This acquisition will expand Rauxa’s service footprint and continues our growth and evolution in digital services,”Rauxa CEO Jill Gwaltney said. “We strive to make our clients’ marketing dollars more productive, and we’ll expand upon this by adopting and delivering the latest in digital marketing capabilities.”
The two agencies will operate in their current locations until mid-2012, when Rauxa’s San Francisco office will combine with ThoughtMatrix in a new location. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Founded in 2003 by Tony Rems and Trevor Fagerskog, ThoughtMatrix employs 44 people. Renowned clients include Autodesk, Mattel, Levi’s, Dannon, Cisco, eBay, Expedia and PayPal. Rems, the former CTO of Razorfish, will assume the role of senior vice president of technology at Rauxa, while Fagerskog will become senior vice president of operations.
Gwaltney added that by teaming up with ThoughtMatrix, Rauxa is poised to deliver more engaging, immersive digital experiences, from Web design and mobile media to social, ecommerce, and content management.
Rauxa Chief Digital Officer John Barneson described the capabilities ThoughtMatrix brings as a strong complement to Rauxa’s existing offerings, adding that the shop “possesses a full toolbox of digital, mobile, and social media solutions that effectively connect brand and consumer.”
According to Barneson, instead of just sending messages out, brands must now find ways to draw consumers in, enticing them to click, enter, stay a while, and bring along some friends.
“The industry is evolving, and Rauxa is growing to meet these changes in order to deliver the most effective business solutions for our clients,” Barneson said. “This new marketing world demands multichannel ideas, not just one-off creative solutions. A more holistic service offering is the most effective way to offer clients better results.”
Barneson said no jobs are affected at either company. Despite adding staff through the acquisition, the agency currently has about 20 open job requisitions, many of which are digital positions.
“ThoughtMatrix was the one firm we met with that was closest to our culture and values. The two companies are closely aligned, both strategically and philosophically,” Barneson said. “There is very little overlap on the operational end, and it will be business as usual at both companies.”
Gwaltney added that as the industry continues to change its service landscape, she and her team remain committed to what has made Rauxa successful: putting the best interests of clients at the forefront.
“Sound strategy, inspired thinking, superior client service and disciplined project management,” she said. “We’re committed to creating leading-edge work for our clients, both today and in the future.”

AIGA San Francisco to Host San Francisco Design Week
SAN FRANCISCO—Since 2006, AIGA San Francisco has organized San Francisco Design Week as a way to reach out to a diverse community of over 20,000 Bay Area design professionals as well as local businesses, non-profits, entrepreneurs, students, the design-savvy public, tourists, and more.
The mission of Design Week raise public awareness of Design and, more importantly, San Francisco Bay Area Design including but not limited to: Graphic, Industrial, Interactive, Interior, Fashion, Architecture, Advertising, etc. To showcase and celebrate design’s impact and value in business innovation and efforts towards sustainability, social impact, human rights and political reform.
Through cross marketing, web presence, e-mail blasts, and posters distributed throughout the city, participating companies and organizations will not only reach AIGA SF’s members, but also many other design organizations, business communities, consumers, tourists, museums-goers, and students.
AIGA SF will be partnering with the San Francisco chapters American Institute of Architects (AIA), Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), Interactive Design Association (IxDA), and Adobe Systems to sponsor a full week of events highlighting the diversity and professionalism of the design community around the bay. Our goal is to raise public awareness of the impact that all design—graphic, product, interior, fashion, architecture, advertising—has in the San Francisco Bay Area.
How can you get involved and support San Francisco Design Week?
Hold an opening, host a lecture, create an exhibit, collaborate on a runway show, organize a studio tour, plan any event to display the impact and value of San Francisco Bay Area design.
